LENTEN TENEBRAE LITANY: Easter Sunday

One: The angel said to the women, “Don’t be alarmed. I know you are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He is not here – he has been raised! Look, here is the place they laid him. Now go & give this message to his disciples.” (Mark 16:6–7a) 

Two: Today we celebrate that light has conquered the darkness. We light the Christ candle aware that the power of the resurrection has forever changed who we are – we have been given the power to become children of the light. 

One: Today we celebrate new life, new joy, new possibilities, & new light. 

Two: The old is dead & finished, & the new shines brightly within our midst. Let us rejoice together. 

All: Alleluia, Christ is risen! Christ is risen indeed. Alleluia! Amen.

CALL TO WORSHIP: 

One: Alleluia! Today is the most important day of our church year! Alleluia!

Everyone: Alleluia!  Jesus Christ is risen today! Alleluia!

One: Alleluia! We celebrate resurrection! Alleluia!

Everyone: Alleluia! God’s power is love and life! Alleluia!

One: Alleluia! This is the day of Christ’s victory. Let us be happy; let us celebrate! Alleluia!

Everyone: Alleluia! Praise God!

All: We come to you, O God, to give you thanks. Your love endures forever. You are our strength and our might. You have become our salvation. Open for us the gates of righteousness that we may enter through them. Amen.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION: 

All: We have come through the shadows of Holy Week. We have heard Jesus betrayed by a friend. We have seen Jesus arrested. We have watched Jesus being beaten up. We have heard Jesus cry out. We have seen Jesus crucified. 

We have watched silently from the crowd.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON:

One: Jesus willingly died for us! God’s only son Jesus was given to

the world not to be its judge, but to be its Saviour. We are a forgiven people! 

All: Thanks be to God! We are an Easter People! Alleluia!
