ANNOUNCEMENTS
MEDITATION
As we gather for this 1st Sunday of Advent, we anticipate the Christ child, and wish for renewal. We come to reclaim hope. We come wanting to reshape how we view our Christmas season. And we remember why we wait for and welcome the Christ child in the world, and into our lives.

WELCOME & TIME OF GREETING
God be with you
And also with you.
Let us look to one another with love and reconciliation.
(Exchange gestures and looks of the peace of Christ.)

CALL TO WORSHIP
Keep shadows without and light within;
Let your face shine that we may be saved.
Keep fear without and justice within; Comfort, comfort your people.
Keep chaos without, and life within;
May those who sow tears reap with shouts of joy.
Keep despair without, and hope within; Deliver us that we may rejoice.
Come O advent God, and reveal your promise to us now.

Our cry is one of longing, O God, For a restored relationship with you.
As we enter the season of advent, our longing is at its greatest.
It can be hard to find you in our world,
Yet we believe you are here with us, renewing all that is broken.

Come among us, and in flesh abide with us,
That we may witness your presence around us,
And be filed with a new vision of our world. Amen.**

ADVENT READING & CANDLE LIGHTING+
“Hope”
Leader: Today is the first Sunday in the season of Advent. In this season we prepare for the coming of Christ. One of the ways we celebrate Advent is lighting candles on an Advent wreath to remind us of the gifts Christ brings to the world. It also helps us count the Sundays on our journey to Christmas.

Reader: The Advent wreath includes many symbols. The wreath is in the shape of a circle. Like God's love, a circle has no beginning or ending. The evergreen branches are a sign that God’s love and caring for us never fades. The candles tell us of the light which came into the world with Jesus Christ. The white candle which we light on Christmas Eve signifies the coming of Christ.

Leader: Today we light the first candle, the candle of hope.

(light the first candle.)

Reader: Like the ancient Hebrew people, we cry out to God from a broken and hurting world. We acknowledge that our lives are not what God meant them to be. And like the ancient Hebrews, we welcome Isaiah’s words of hope which tell us that we are like clay and God is the potter. God created us and will recreate us, shaping us in love.

Leader: With the lighting of this candle, we celebrate the hope of Israel, and the hope that we have in Jesus Christ. We continue to have hope in God’s promise that Christ will come again to fill our lives and the life of the world with love, and joy, and peace. Let us pray together.

All: O God, help us to be open to your shaping of our lives, that we may be channels of hope, love, peace, and joy in our hurting world. Amen.

Gracious God,

Let us pause now for reflection & private prayers…
(silent reflection & prayers….)

Let us turn to God saying,
Our Father who art in heaven…. Amen.

We go knowing this: we are never, ever alone.
The peace of Christ holds us, the love of the Creator enfolds us,
