Minute for Mission
Quiet Preparation for Worship

Call to Worship:
In Advent, God works to prepare our hearts to receive the fullness of his grace.  That work may come from unexpected places.   “The voice of one crying in the wilderness: Prepare the way of the Lord!”

Opening Prayer: (unison)
Peace is your precious gift, O God.  We give thanks for the Advent promise of peace revealed in the coming of Jesus Christ.  We give thanks for the opportunity to receive peace and share peace in this faith community. We give thanks for the ways in which we can share peace, in this nation and this neighbourhood.  We rejoice that, in Jesus, we have the hope of peace.  Peace is your eternal gift, O God.  Amen.

Advent Candle Liturgy: Peace

HYMN:
Voices United #7 – Hope is a Star vs. 1 & 2

Prayer of Invocation:
Dear Lord, prepare us for the great things you intend to do in us, and through us today.  May our journey through the Advent season awaken our slumbering souls and quicken us to a fresh and vital walk of faith.  What we seek we cannot do alone---so we await your help.  Amen.

Prayer of Confession:
Give us the wisdom, O God, to take the time to listen to your word for us.  Give us the strength to identify the idols that claim our allegiances and to destroy them. Give us the courage, O God, to face temptations and the will to be an outward and forward faith community. We confess we sometimes get caught up in depression because of all the things we can’t do, because of the pandemic, rather than using the extra time we have to find innovative ways to connect with and support others.  Help us to trust that you are in charge, even if we right now can’t see the whole picture.  Amen.

Assurance of Pardon:
Peace is flowing like a river: --the peace that comes from careful reflection; --the peace of well-chosen words & actions; --the peace of God, which refreshes body, mind and spirit, be with you.
