Voices United #60 - O COME ALL YE FAITHFUL vs 1 & 2
God chose Mary, God has chosen us.
Has God chosen us to remain calm in an era of hurry and stress?
God chose Mary, God has chosen us.
Has God chosen us to show the way when others are uncertain and fearful?
God chose Mary, God has chosen us.
Has God chosen us to renew our discipleship, and work to bring closer God’s realm of justice, compassion, peace, and love?
(D. Sparks, Okanagan Falls, U.C., British Columbia)
God of Advent surprises, awaken us to our full potential beyond our imaginations. Like Mary, may your spirit overcome us so that we become more than observers and celebrants of the birth, we become participants in Christ’s coming today and tomorrow in the life we share with others and the love we offer. Amen.
(Micol I. Cotrrell, St. Paul’s U.C., Temiskaming Shores, Ont.)
Voices United #7 - HOPE IS A STAR
God of unending mercy, we are a people of abundance. Your never-ceasing love surrounds us; your great compassion embraces us; but we take these gifts for granted. Open our eyes to the wonders of creation. Tune our ears to the cries for love in a lonely world. Fill our heart with a faith that is revealed in action. This we pray in the name of the one who never ceases to come. Amen.
God never gives up on His people. Even when we were yet sinners, God sent Jesus into the world to be our Saviour. So let us be assured that our sins are forgiven. Thanks be to God.
LUKE 1:47-55 - SONG OF MARY (Magnificat) – Voices United 898 Refrain 1
LUKE 1:26-38 – THE BIRTH OF JESUS IS ANNOUNCED

God’s Word of hope and love is coming into the world. Hope and love for the lowly, the broken, and the fearful. Hope for a better world. In anticipation of God’s love and hope, let us offer our gifts, preparing for the coming of Christ among us.
God’s love comes at Christmas time. God’s love in Jesus brightly shines. God’s Spirit of love is on the move. Our gifts are blessed and shared in love. Amen.
Loving God, as we approach the day of Christ's birth help us to throw wide the doors of our hearts in preparation. Help us to sense the importance of what happened so long ago when Mary was visited by the angel Gabriel, to remember the words of the angels, and the prophets and the teachers of old, and to celebrate all the promises that you made through them. Help us to take firm hold of the meaning of all these things and to know in the depths of our being that even now you are seeking to work in us and through us to fulfill the promises you have made.... Lord hear our prayer....
Lord, may this Christmas season be for us and for those around us a season of healing, may it be a season of hope and of love and of joy, may it be a time of true sharing and of rejoicing in all the earth.... Lord hear our prayer...
We pray O God for those in need around us: for those who need a second birth, for those who need a tender touch and a healing word.... Lord, hear our prayer...
We pray too, O God, ourselves and for all the children of the world - your children - and all those of tender faith, all those who have no home to call their home, all those who are hungry and thirsty, all those who are lonely or heart-broken. Bless, we pray, the innocent of the earth and all those who trust in you. Bless the humble and the powerless and bring down from their thrones those who are full of pride and those who are indifferent... Lord, hear our prayer....
Bless we pray, each special one we name silently before you now...
Lord hear our prayer…….
We ask these things, O God, with hope and praise in our hearts, our minds, and our souls, through Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.
Voices United #64 - O LITTLE TOWN OF BETHLEHEM
And now into a waiting world we go – to prepare the way of the Lord – to make God’s path straight. May we be ready for the that Christmas Spirit to descend; hoping for the peace the season promises, and knowing that, in spite of all the evidence to the contrary, God is in charge and comes to us in love, to hold us and keep us all our days. Amen.
